Jason's Success Journey

Providing Inspiration and resources as I document my Success Journey through Life

I believe there comes a time in everyone’s life when we feel discouraged and unmotivated to do anything. That’s how I was feeling over the Summer this year and the heat and humidity didn’t help much. Feeling unmotivated and discouraged may not necessarily be depression as most people would think. It could just be a lack of results, a weak support network, or even unexpected life experiences.

Over the past couple of months, I’ve been trying to pinpoint the source of my discouragement and lack of motivation and I believe it’s because I’ve been following the same routine for months and somehow expecting different results.

As I began setting new goals I made the mistake of not adjusting my thoughts and behaviors to actually help move me toward achieving those goals.

Having a routine and following it for months or years is great, but it’s also important to be flexible and occasionally break our routine. By occasionally venturing outside of your normal routine you’ll remain mentally fresh and bring in new energy, maybe even new opportunities.

This reminds me of a quote I heard a few years back which I thought was incredible!

“You should enjoy the little detours to the fullest. Because that’s where you’ll find things more important than what you want.” ~ Unknown

So after spending the summer going through my own issues we ended up in August and I started thinking about my goals. You know the ones we set at the beginning of the year and some of the things we’ve done the first couple of months to try and achieve them. Well, I’ve realized that somewhere around May I started getting distracted and off course and didn’t come to my senses until August.

I guess it’s all a part of the journey toward success and living life.

In August I started going back to my local Toastmasters meetings at least twice a month. I started learning Japanese, which I think is really cool! I’ve also decided to finally sit down and write my first book as well as actively posting to my blogs.

Now that we’re moving into late October you can expect regular posts, at least 1 per week on this site.

If you’re feeling discouraged;

Get out of your regular routine and/or adjust your current routine to more closely align with your goals and daily life.

Commit to learning something new; maybe a new language, or a new skill such as; Cyber security, or digital marketing.

Don’t beat yourself up because we all go through periods of discouragement and feelings of being generally unmotivated. It’s only temporary and things will get better!
